Tri in the Park - Saturday 21st July 2018
Junior and adult triathlons !!
Results from 2016 can be found here!
Tri in the Park is an entirely off-road super-sprint triathlon set within the boundaries of Cheltenham’s Pittville Park…
An indoor pool swim followed by an off-road cycle and run around the park is ideal for those who are new to the sport or those experienced triathletes wishing to try something different.
The Junior event will take place before the adult race and both the Tri in the Park events will be perfect for families wishing to give triathlon a go!
The event is based at Leisure@Cheltenham, Tommy Taylors Lane, Cheltenham, GL50 4RN.
Tri in the Park is an afternoon event taking place after the children's triathlon. Adult race registration opens at 1:00pm with the first wave starting at 3:00pm. If you have a child racing joint registration can be made at the time of children's race registration.
The 400m swim uses the leisure centre's 33m pool (a mere 12 lengths) with transition just outside in the park.
The 10km cycle is entirely off road circumnavigating the perimeter of the park. Although the ride is off road it is not a technical mountain bike course but follows the perimeter of the pitch and putt golf course and requires no technical expertise (or bravery!)
The run is 2.5km once again around the beautiful park.
Age group prizes and goody bag for all competitors.
Minimum age 15 years at 31st December 2018
Novice Team Prize (Work Groups, Colleges, Sixth Forms etc.) of any size, first 4 to count - submit your team name on your entry form.
Please note: This event is limited to 250 competitors so early entry is recommended.
Registration for the children's race will open from 12pm. Adult family members who are taking park in the adult race can register for their race at the same time. Race briefing will take place on the poolside 15 mins before wave starts.
The children's race will remain completely off-road within the park boundaries and it will follow a different course to the adult race (flatter with less obstacles/hills etc) we are also planning to have a separate transition area for the children - allowing any participating parents to register and set up their own transition at the same time as the child.
The children's event will have 4 age categories distances and each category will be set off at staggered times allowing for the course to be scaled for all the distances. Please note that the youth age category (15-16 years) will race in the adult race.
Once again all competitors will receive a finishers medal and goody bag, with age group prizes awarded at the end of the day!
We're still in the process of finalising the layout of the course, based on the 33m length pool the table below is a guide to what I think the distances will be. The age category distances are within the maximum distances specified for a children's triathlon by the British Triathlon Federation. These age groups are based upon the age of a competitor on the 31st December of the year that the event takes place.
To confirm the minimum age is 8 years old at 31st December 2018 and ALL child entrants MUST be able to swim the distance specified in their age group category confidently. We will ask that children must be able to exit the pool, find and collect their bicycle without assistance and confidently cycle/run unaided in order to compete.
