I have entered to Cotswold Classic this year again, because it was my 1st middle distance triathlon two years ago and really enjoyed it. And other main reason as a preparation for ETU middle distance in Mallorca in October where I will be representing Czech Republic in 30-34 AG. It is local event for us CTC members and price is not as high to enter as others.
As we train in Cotswold water park we know area pretty well, swim is challenging 1 lap of Lake 32, the is bike 'flat' (around 83 km) with 2 laps and run 3 x 7km laps with great support of spectators and marshals (cheers Doug's crew and AA).
Six members of the club entered so is always nice to see familiar faces and friends on course. As past few weeks got colder, I have prayed for nice day (no rain at least) and YES. Woken up by alarm at 4 am on Sunday at Go By Cycle campsite (still very dark but surprisingly warm, no rain) and start day with quick wash, black coffee, porridge and banana. Next - tri kit on, sort last touches on the bike and head on to transition.
Race starts are split into 5 waves which made nice start and it is not as "cosy" on the swim as some mass starts. I was pleased with swim, as did not feel I was going quick, the water was nice and clean. My bike splits were 4 mins quicker per lap than 2 years ago - so much improved. And the run? I enjoyed it as was lucky enough to get on heels of Matthew Aston who is very strong athlete and managed to hold pace for 2 laps. The last lap was a bit of a struggle with some issues but still managed to finish race at 4:34 which was over 10 minutes quicker then 1st my "1st Classic". I must say, a very strong women's field this year, all the top 3 under 4:30 finish. I was pleased with 4th overall female. I would recommend Cotswold 113 and Classic if you decide to go 'longer'.
